Hello. Welcome. Kiaora.
Hi. I’m Bear Martin and I love to take photos. Being a kiwi and growing up in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, New Zealand, has lead me to a love of being in nature and for a love of the sea. That love of nature lead me to want to travel and to explore and experience more of what I loved. I wanted to document and share the places and things that I have found. So I picked up a camera and started taking photos
Hundreds of them sometimes. I love the process. Not just the clicking of the button that operates the shutter but the whole process. Picking a location. Working out how to get there. Researching the sunrise/sunset angles and rise and set times. Checking the weather and tides. Charging all the batteries, packing lenses and making sure I have dry socks for when I ignore the tide charts. Then actually getting out and climbing the hills, walking the beaches, strolling through the forests or exploring new cities, and just being out taking photos.
Then when I arrive at a location there’s the excitement of finding the light, finding the right composition and then taking a photo, finding another composition and capturing another photo and repeating until the light runs out. I then get to input the digital files to my computer and start the even more exciting process of processing and editing.
And I’m not even going to bore you with the hours agonising over which of the hundreds of photos I actually took, I like enough to edit. And then whittle that down to a few images good enough to share on the interwebs for you good folk to have a gander at and “like”… no pressure.
The select few images I like I post to the gram. This website will hopefully complement those images with occasional blogs of a sort of break down of the how, when and why I got the end image. This website is also a place that you can check out the images I post on the gram in their full glory without the annoying cropping or downsizing that the gram is known for.
I’d love for you to keep coming back. The images will change as I take new ones and hopefully improve my technique. There is also be a shop where I can hopefully convince you to part with a small amount of money in exchange for something beautiful you can hang on the back of the toilet wall. But you can purchase any of the images on this site. Just drop me a message if you see anything you like and I’ll print it for you and pop it in the post.
Of course you might not ever read this and you might come here just to check out the pretty pictures and that’s great too.
I hope you enjoy and thanks for looking.
This is me. Camera in hand. In jandels(flip-flops) and shorts looking for things to photograph in the best place on earth, at home in New Zealand.
